Armin Hanika - 8 Pro
About the luthier
At HANIKA, craftsmanship is regarded as tailor-made precision and sound as art. The manufacture in Baiersdorf traces its roots to Helmut Hanika, who founded the SOLI company in 1953 after learning violin making through the family workshop tradition of his grandfather, Anton Mayer. As demand changed, Helmut Hanika moved from folk guitar production toward high-quality classical guitars, establishing the name Hanika as a respected German reference for refined hand-built instruments.
Since 1993, the company has been led by Armin Hanika, the second generation of the family. Under his direction, HANIKA continues to combine experienced handcraft, carefully selected materials, and modern construction concepts across a wide range of classical guitars, from the Studio Line to the specially made instruments of the Professional Line.
About the guitar
The Hanika 8-Pro is an eight-string classical guitar conceived for players who want an expanded bass register within a clear, traditionally voiced instrument. Its spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides give the guitar a direct attack, a full tonal body, and a broad harmonic foundation, while the two additional bass strings open the sound toward darker colours and extended resonance. The manufacturer’s standard tuning is contra A, C, E, A, D, g, b, e’, giving the instrument a practical layout for transcription, contemporary repertoire, and arrangements that benefit from a wider lower range.
Musically, the 8-Pro balances depth with definition. The extra basses add weight and resonance, yet the spruce soundboard keeps the response crisp and articulate. Hanika’s domed soundboard with symmetrical Torres bracing supports tonal variety and stability, allowing the instrument to retain separation and clarity even when the lower register is fully engaged.
Despite its extended format, the guitar is designed with playability in mind. The string spacing is slightly reduced to make the eight-string layout more approachable, while the reinforced cedro neck, grenadilla fingerboard, matte polyurethane finish, and Rubner tuners give the instrument a stable and practical character for regular use. It comes with a Hanika gig bag.
